Filet Crochet

Filet Crochet is very simple to learn. The basic idea or pattern is to use a double crochet and a chain in an alternating style. The end of the rows / turn/ start/; chain three (for the turn) + 1 (for the spacing), double crochet in 6th stitch from hook. Pattern stitch is: chain (ch)1, double crochet (dc) in top of next double crochet (dc).
Continue across( acr) in pattern, ch.1, dc. Double crochet (dc) in top of last double crochet (dc), chain (ch) 4, double crochet (dc) in next double crochet (dc).
I made several rectangle pieces out of two different colors of cotton yarn. Assembled the blocks for a front, back, sides, and arms or sleeves.
I made chains
and wove them in and thru the sleeve end, about 2" above the end and tied them into a bow. This allowed for a slight cuff and holds it nicely above my wrist. I made another chain and wove it in and out of a chain 5 I placed around the neckline to help secure the main shape on neckline.
This "Tunic" was made in three days. The stitches used were: Chain (ch), single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc). The hardest part was sewing in the yarn ends. A very simple pattern to learn. Not the Tunic so much as the "pattern stitches" themselves.
I taught my girlfriend this pattern and within two weeks had enough blocks to make her first Filet-crochet, baby blanket for her grand daughters first Christmas.Taught myself to read patterns as a young adult, so am trying to assist with others that are not that familiar as well as help or share with some patterns and stitches.
Hope this helps and that you enjoy.
I also have this picture and other crochet items I have made on Pinterest, SweatPeasnRoses, or look me up by name, Leota McKenzie.

Hello Crocheters and knitters

Hello. I am an avid crocheter that recently learned to knit. I enjoy "hooking". I am always trying to learn new techniques or stitches. I was taught how to knit on three needles and was so enthused, that within two weeks I made my first pair of socks. I am now expert at either craft/skill. I am just a traditional craft sort of woman, wife, mother and grand mother. I have always had a crochet needle and yarn with me, ready for any project. Have hook will travel, I should have named this blog that. I can do videos and will add some later.
When ever I want to learn a new stitch or technique, I find it and learn it!
I have made hundreds of beanie hats, blankets, baby items, children's cowboy clothes, dresses, gloves, mitts, gauntlets, hats, hacky-sacks, bean bags, leg warmers, and.......
I make a lot of my own patterns for umbrellas, personal dress or desire of style for myself.
I enjoy a large variety of yarns. I use any size of crochet hook and threads/yarns. I learned to tat-not well, but am working on that. I also taught myself to "net". Fishing net repairs~no problem now.
I  enjoy what I refer to as "home crafts" or "heritage skills". Knitting, Crochet, Netting, Tatting, sewing, gardening, and making soaps, body butters, home made butter, natural-remedies-diet, and I farm rabbits, chickens and ducks and not just for the eggs... I utilize the hides as well.
A Naturalist at heart, I am.

I am on youtube, twitter (Boletasaurus), facebook, pinterest,  google circles, and I have other blogs.
I am an Author of a Mushroom Harvesting book; A Visual Guide For Harvesting Mushrooms,by Author House. I am a photographer at heart and took all the pictures in my book. I enjoy a very large variety of activities, camping, hunting, crafts, gardening, sewing, knitting, crochet, photography, farming my lawn into a garden area and raising my own animals for manure, eggs, hides and meat, not your everyday~girl next door. I have been married for 29 years, am a mother of five (5), adult kids (3 boys & 2 girls), and a grand mother, so out came the crochet hats! I have grand daughters!

Drop me a line or a question. I enjoy speaking with other crafter's and am always ready to listen to good advise on a how to project. I have many patterns in my collection of craft things, you never know, I might have what you are looking for.
