Knitted projects

Here a a few simple knitted projects that I have recently made.

The two sweatshirts are the same pattern,
The only stitches used are Knit and Purls.
It was made on Standard Knitting needles and
a Circular Knitting needle, for the hood.

The blue sweatshirt was made on a circular needle.
Sleeves made in Double Point needles.
The Baby sleeper was made the same way. I used the 3 Needle Bind Off method
for the bottom and made a channel for the I-Chord to go through.
Snap closure on the shoulder.

I would be more than happy to share these patterns, if anyone is interested.
Just drop me a line sometime.

Knitting

I just posted on how to Knit Continental style and spent a considerable
amount of time in the article, on teaching the Long Tail Cast On.
I hope that this is or was not confusing.
The long tail cast on is very important for the foundation of knitting.
I did not mean to put more attention on it over the actual
knitting style instructions.
I will redo the page with just the Continental Knitting instructions.
Please feel free to drop me a line.
I will also be making instructional videos and will post them soon.

Learn Continental Knitting

Continental Knitting

There is nothing difficult about Continental Knitting.
It may seem difficult to someone that has never tried it.
If you have crocheted before, it maybe easier for you to
learn this style of knitting.
Due to the fact the yarn is held in the left hand as with crochet.
I hope to explain the finger motions for Continental Knitting
in a simple manner to allow anybody to learn.
Feel free to save or print out the pictures of text so you can practice.
I recently sent these instructions to my 99 year old grand mother
so she could learn how to knit Continental style knitting,
She said, was so easy she learned it very quickly.
Then I wrote out the instructions for 3 needle knitting on
double point needles so she could learn how to make the
socks, I had been making for her.
She learned that too! Now she makes her own socks.
I can add progressive patterns and how to knit on Double Point needles
latter on, For now lets concentrate on the basics.
I will use the written abbreviations, for pattern reading, as I go along.

I recommend using a #10 Wooden needle and 100 %  Cotton yarn.

The first thing to learn is how to Cast On (CO).
I prefer the Long Tail Cast On.
Draw out about a yard length of yarn. Make a slip knot and place knot on needle.
Make an "L" with your left thumb and index finger.
Pinch thumb and index finger together and go in between the two
strands of yarn hanging off the needle.

Spread apart fingers to make a "L" .
Use your bottom three fingers to hold the yarn that is
hanging down in your palm.
Swing knitting needle to the left and down to be able
to go under the first strand of yarn.

Come up between the first and second strand of yarn that is on the left thumb.
Swing needle out to the right and go around third strand of yarn, wrapping on needle.
Then go down and through the thumb yarn, strands 1 & 2.
Drop yarn off thumb pulling gently on the yarn in the palm to tighten.

This is what you have when you finish the steps above.
Repeat process for the specified stitches to start with.

Now for the instructions on Continental Knitting.
Purling, Continental Style.
Knitting in Continental Knitting style.

This pattern is very simple to learn.
Giving the opportunity to use both Knit and Purl stitches.

This picture is of a larger size dishcloth but the same pattern.
It makes a nice checkerboard cloth.
It is very absorbent and very useful in the kitchen or bathroom.

Knitted and Crochet projects.

I thought I should catch up on some pictures.
Even though  I haven't posted anything in a while, I have been busy.
This is a rectangle vest for my 2 year old grand daughter.
Knitted from fingering yarn.

My favorite sweater pattern. I made it large and I love it.
A very simple pattern that knits up very quick.
This is a sleep sack nighty I made for my new grandson.
Knitted top down. I added length to a Onsie pattern and then worked a 3 needle
bind off for the hem and inserted an I Chord I made.
I used the same, Onsie, top down pattern with larger needles and yarn to make a football
style shirt. Then a Vertabre sweater  too.
My grand daughter wanted some Barbie doll clothes so I took a break from knitting and
made these for her.
A hooded Poncho with a small purse that I made for my oldest grand daughter.
A couple little slip on skirts I made for my youngest grand daughter.
A Minion outfit, crocheted, that I made for my grand daughter for Halloween.
My grand niece, in the Blossom Caccoon I made her.

Having 4 grand daughters and 1 grandson with a grandson due any day, lots of nieces, nephews and grandnieces, 5 kids and a large, extended family, it seems like I am always making head bands, boot cuffs, baby items or socks.
I am so excited to finally, learned to knit, that I find myself
knitting in my spare time, just because I need to use up my yarn stash.

Learning to Knit

                                                                   Learning to Knit

I have been crocheting for over 40 years and have wanted to learn to knit.
A friend of mine is an avid knitter and makes socks for all her family for Christmas gifts.
She always wanted to learn how to Filet Crochet, so I traded skills with her.
She taught me how to make socks and I taught her the fundamentals for Filet Crocheting.
That was 3 1/2 years ago and I truely love Knitting!
My first project was a pair of legwarmers made on size # 13 double point needles.
She reminded how to do finger play yarn games for the casting on portion and how to join on double points, markers, slip, knit and purl stitches, casting off was so fun.

Two pairs of knitted socks. My first was the white and brown wool,  2nd pair was the green blended for my husband.
Since that day she showed me how to make legwarmers I practiced on the sock pattern for 3 weeks until I had made my woollies!
Now I make all sorts of Knitted and Crochet goodies for my children and grand children!

I practiced making caseings, 3 needle bind offs, I-chords, color transitions and I have been fortunate to have completed some items.

I read and reread articles until I figured out how to make the stitch or pattern stitch.  I am not too good at joining finished pieces however, I can knit in the round on circular needles and understand how to join on and complete an item, such as the pants, and make them with cuffs.
This September I'll have been Knitting for 4 years and I love it!
Am always saving patterns, buying various needles and accessories, and or making needles from wood. Such a fun art/skill.

Newborn bootie/slippers

I recently crocheted a pair of slippers for my newborn granddaughter from an old, Woman's Day pattern pub., 1972. Instead of cotton #10 I used soft, crochet cotton which is slightly thicker in gauge but makes the softest slippers.
Then I found a knitting pattern on Ravalry yarns that is simple and oh so cute. As a new knitter I had yet to master the craft of booties. This pattern is so simple and wonderful! It made me feel like an expert knitter!
My daughter just fell in love with both pairs and asked for a no- limit supply!
I hope this helps new knitters like me.
The crochet bootie pattern is very versatile and can be embellished with chains on ankle or fringed for mocassin styles.
 Again, I hope you enjoy!

The Ravalry site is free to join and offers 100's of patterns and many other helpful info. I am a member of Ravalry, Lion Brand, Rowan Knits, Redheart, Annie's, and several more, the endless supply of new patterns is dreamy! I love them all!
Hope you do too!
